Joss Whedon is so overrated. Has anyone here actually read his X-Men run? SO AWFUL. But the original movie was a fun little diversion. So yeah I might actually
be into this. But, uh, they haven't even said that he WON'T write it, he's just not automatically attached to the script. So no need for a geek
freakout just yet.

Him and the Kuzuis, who have the rights to Buffy, apparently had some kind of falling out. Most sites I have come across are reporting that it is unlikely he
would work with them. They are just trying to cash in on the Twilight phenomenon, so I fell pretty confident that this is going to be bad. And over-rated or
not, Buffy is great largely because of Joss Whedon.

I kinda feel like both the Buffy and the Angel series had potential, but then became super trite, dull, and inane right after their second season. Firefly was
good but, then again, it never even had a second season. The man is decent (damn good musicals. he should write for Broadway, for serious, just check out
Doctor Horrible and such) when it comes to television, but he does not know when to let a thing down.

I think the best episodes of Joss's series were not actually written by him, but some of his geekier and more modest pet writers. I'd be much more
pleased if one of them were writing the script rather than Joss.
His comics are okay (like his issues of Runaways), but Gail Simone is far superior. I think he's got just enough respect and inclusion of strong women and minority types to play the middle successfully, whereas a writer like Gail, where gender barriers seem to often almost completely disappear but for some good humorous lines, is a little more intimidating. I'd love to see what she could do with Buffy.

People kept telling me, "Oh, you would love Buffy." I liked the movie well enough. But then a few months ago, a friend loaned me the first season.
No, I can't say as I loved it. It rated a hearty "meh" from this geeky dude.
I'm a real good sex person. I do it all the different ways.

hank, i won't try to convert you or anything, but buffy definitely didn't hit its stride until the second season. it gets way better.

Hell, I would say the third season, myself.

I feel what you're saying, but there's no way I'm wading through three seasons of that on the off chance it gets better. I think it's just a
little too teen girl for me. Plus, I don't like Gellar, I have discovered. She bugs me.
The difference between me and you is you've got money in your pocket and I've got a hole in my shoe.

wait, did he do the first movie? Cause I really dug that and I never watched the show beyond the first season, which I didn't particularly care for.

Yeah, the movie with Kristy Swanson and Luke Perry and all was his baby.

no. he wrote the movie and had a vision for it much like the tv show, but then the same people who are trying to make this new movie totally did what they
wanted to with it. they own the production rights, but gave him back creative control for the tv show. thank goodness.
the first season of buffy is really unspeakably awful, comparatively speaking. it's worth waiting through, though. |

I though the Buffy movie was all him and that it was the marketing and distribution that they fucked up?

No. He wrote the movie; the Kuzuis bought the script, then directed and produced it. It was not what he envisioned. The wiki page for the movie has a nice,
polite quote from him; I've seen much worse.

I wonder what it would have been like if he had directed!

Is it supposed to get better past the third season too? Because I've seen up to that and no, it didn't get better.
The only Joss-thing I really dig is Dr. Horrible, but that is mostly because NPH is in it. And the ending was, erm, horrible. I guess what bugs me about Joss is that dramedy is really hard to do right and IMO, he does it wrong. The movie is straight comedy which is why it works for me. And Buffy got more dramatic less dramedic over time but it still didn't "feel" right. It felt full of Narm (TV tropes, look it up).

What PBR said. I think the key to liking Buff is you gotta be on board with Gellar and that ain't happening. I just don't like her face. I have never
figured out why.

Yeah, what is it about her? I like the rest of the cast okay, but Geller makes me want to switch channels, no matter what I see her in.
If you'll carry my cup and hold me up, I'll be glad to walk you home.
